An Afternoon on the Shore

This last weekend, I got a little inspired and decided to take a day trip up the North Shore to Grand Marais. This is going to be a short one, but I wanted to share a few pictures.

I stopped at Temperance River State Park to say hello to the blue blazes of the SHT again, and enjoy the beautiful day in the upper 30’s.

I was very disappointed to find that the flowing spring in Temperance River was contaminated with e-coli, but I hope it clears up this spring. It's a great water source, always running cold and clear.

Lake Superior was definitely in a good mood, with tiny waves that just lapped at the bottom of the ice on the rocks.

Back up the Temperance River gorge, the trail crosses Highway 61 and climbs up onto an ancient waterfall with he river burbling through the gorge far below.

This was a pretty short trip, I only got in about 4 miles of hiking due to my late start leaving home. I swung up to Grand Marias to stop in at the Lake Superior Trading Post (they held one of my hiker boxes for me when I was on the SHT this fall, amd I promised I would stop by without a pack. It took a little longer than I planned to get there) and pick up a few things for my family. I've had three trips planned this winter up the North Shore, each has been scuppered by snowstorms. I needed a little time by the lake, so I figured a day trip would fit in nicely.

Until next time!

Hike on!
